Eric Douglas (Ricky) MACHLEDT 16-year-old-son of Dr. and Mrs. John Machledt of Greenwood died as his father tried to revive him after a holiday party sledding accident Wednesday night. Officials said the accident occurred about 8:45 p.m. during a sledding party. Machledt's sled veered off the path that five other Greenwood youths had been using and rammed against a tree stump hidden in the snow. The boy was thrown forward and landed on the stump. A post mortem exam indicated Machledt suffered a ruptured liver. Ricky was a leader and honor pupil in the Jr class at Greenwood HS. He received rewards last year for maintaining Straight A scholastic averages and was a varsity footbal letterman. Dr. John Machledt is a former Waveland boy the son of Mrs. Hazel Machledt and the late Harry. Survivors include the parents, a brother, John H. Machledt, Jr. a Princeton University student; Sara Arden, 8 years old and grandmother, Hazel Machledt of Waveland. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday Greenwood Presbyterian Church with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. -- kbz (RIP - loved the Machledt family)
